Another packed room this morning for Vestavia Hills Sunrise Rotary. Yet, there is room for one more so we welcomed Don Roberts as a new member. We are a growing club now with 29 members.

We are excited to hear social media expert Wade Kwon speak on better service through social media. Wade Kwon is selected as one of the 35 Influential People in Social Media. Birmingham Magazine readers selected him as Best Tweeter 2 years running in the Best of Birmingham 2010 & 2011 online polls.

Wade is speaking on how behind all social media is PEOPLE. Most of all to be effective in social media you need a core belief that drives you. Maybe, you believe, "You can make a difference in your community." That belief has start somewhere and usually starts small. Social media is a driving force in helping you get started and connect with like minded people. Taking a step forward by finding those that need help, what resources are needed and how you can directly take action.

The key point Wade conveyed is that you must be on social media on a regular basis, but not to share every moment in your life. In other words, it's great you are buying a Reese's Cup at Walmart but . . . . Most of all listening to others on social media allows you to be interested in and active in you community. A great example is James Spann. The weatherman with a plan uses social media to get the word out about weather and also crowd source what is happening in the moment. With out a doubt, social media saved lives in the storms of April 27, 2011.

Big thanks to Wade for sharing his insights into being more effective in your community through social media. You can follow him @wadeontweets.
